چکیده

We discuss quantitatively the wetting of a solid textured by a designed roughness. Both the hydrophilic and the hydrophobic case are described, together with possible implications for the wetting of porous materials. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved. Role of Viscous Dissipative Processes on the Wetting of Textured Surfaces

We investigate the role of viscous forces on the wetting of hydrophobic, semi-hydrophobic, and hydrophilic textured surfaces as second-order effects. We show that during the initial contact, the transition from inertia- to viscous-dominant regime occurs regardless of their surface topography and chemistry. Furthermore, we demonstrate the effect of viscosity on the apparent contact angle under q...

Tailoring Hydrodynamics of Non-wetting Droplets with Nano-engineered Surfaces

Considering that contacts between liquid and solid are ubiquitous in almost all energy processes, including steam turbines, oil pumping, condensers and boilers, the efficiency of energy transportation can be maximized such that the liquid-solid interaction is optimized. Texture based super-hydrophobicity, also known as the Lotus effect, has been one of the most extensively studied topics in the...

Fully reversible transition from Wenzel to Cassie-Baxter states on corrugated superhydrophobic surfaces.

Liquid drops on textured surfaces show different dynamical behaviors depending on their wetting states. They are extremely mobile when they are supported by composite solid-liquid-air interfaces (Cassie-Baxter state) and immobile when they fully wet the textured surfaces (Wenzel state). By reversibly switching between these two states, it will be possible to achieve control over the fluid dynam...

Wetting theory for small droplets on textured solid surfaces

Conventional wetting theories on rough surfaces with Wenzel, Cassie-Baxter, and Penetrate modes suggest the possibility of tuning the contact angle by adjusting the surface texture. Despite decades of intensive study, there are still many experimental results that are not well understood because conventional wetting theory, which assumes an infinite droplet size, has been used to explain measur...

Bio-inspired hierarchically structured polymer fibers for anisotropic non-wetting surfaces

We demonstrate a rice leaf-like hierarchically textured polymer fiber array for anisotropic non-wetting surfaces. To provide superhydrophobicity in addition to the anisotropic behavior, fiber surfaces are spray coated with organically modified silica nanoparticles. The resulting micro/nano hierarchically structured fiber surfaces demonstrate anisotropic non-wetting properties. We designed vario...
